LibreOffice Office Suites
Free program similar to Office
LibreOffice is an office suite emerged as a clone of OpenOffice (after buying it from Sun), which has since been developed and improved independently.
Like OpenOffice, LibreOffice is a free of cost alternative to Microsoft Office and also cross-platform (Windows, Macintosh and Linux), which includes a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet editor (Calc), an application for viewing and create PowerPoint-like presentations (Impress), a database manager (Base), a mathematical equation editor that lets you work with equations and functions (math), and a vector graphics editor (Draw) used to create as Visio diagrams.
The above applications can open formats used by Office, such as Word documents (. Doc and. Docx), Excel spreadsheets (. Xls and. Xlsx), PowerPoint presentations (. Ppt and. Pptx) and Access databases.
LibreOffice has some interesting extra features:
LibreOffice can import documents from other applications such as Microsoft Works, Lotus WordPro, WordPerfect, and SVG format images.
Writer and Calc allow export presentations to PDF or HTML, like Impress also lets you export to SWF (Flash).
There is a tool to create and edit PDF files.
Base to connect to other database engines such as MySQL, Adabas D, MS Access and PostgreSQL via JDBC or ODBC.
Calc supports various database formats like SQL or Oracle, whose data can be sorted and filtered in order to generate statistical analyzes.
LibreOffice 3.6.2 is the latest version, updated in October 2012, which can be downloaded for free in Windows, Linux or Mac.
